Originally built in 1859, The Zybell House has been transformed into a destination for travelers and events. Whether you’re looking for a couple’s getaway, an extended business rental, or a family weekend exploring Central Illinois, we’ve got you covered. It is also perfect for wedding parties, reunion groups, or for fans attending Illini athletic events or other activities on the University of Illinois campus.
The Zybell House is an example of classic Colonial architecture, featuring a four-square layout on all three floors. The Zybell family built and owned the home for many years. The Zybells were early entrepreneurs in the Monticello area, as they owned and operated both a furniture store and a mortuary in a building on the town square.
At some point around the 1970s, the house transitioned away from residential use toward a more commercial orientation. The house was home to several different businesses in its lifetime, including a tea room, a furniture showroom, and an insurance office. Mike and Samantha have diligently worked to renovate and restore the home to highlight many of its original features while also adding in the elements needed to make it a great venue for guests. The house now boasts four boarding rooms comfortably appointed for both individuals and families, and a classroom space that can accommodate up to 24 people.
